It will also help to drink the water [infusion] of the wood called chichihualcuahuitl, mixed with water and left [to dry] in the sun; and also to drink the water [infusion] of the wood called tlapalezcuahuitl, cooking it first and adding a little bit of red tequixquite to the water. It is understood that [the patient] should drink the water [infusion] of one of the woods one day and of the other the next day.
\nThose who spit up blood will heal by drinking cacao made with those aromatic spices called tlilxochitl, mecaxochitl, hueyinacaztli, and with a certain type of chile called chiltecpin, which has been toasted well and mixed with olli. And what has been just described can also be drunk [mixed] with wine, but it should not have olli [mixed in]. Or [the patient] will drink the water [infusion] of the wood called tlapalezcuahuitl or the little bread roll that is called ezpahtli, which is made from different herbs, mixing [the roll] and stirring it in the water.

\nboiled in maguey wine. One is not to eat immediately; one is to abstain from fruit; one is to abstain from cold things; one is to drink—one is to eat—everything warm; wine, maguey wine, white maguey wine also help. Only one drink [is required].
\nAnd its remedy is [an infusion of the wood] named chichiualquauitl, [which is] disagreeable to taste. It is not cooked; it is only warmed in the sun, prepared in the morning. One is to drink this medicine all day. And the next day one is still to drink [the water in which] tlapalezquauitl1 is cooked. A little colored saltpeter is dropped in.
\nOne is to drink chocolate [with] tlilxochitl,3 mecaxochitl,4 *vei nacaztli;5 with liquid rubber, with small chills—scorched chilis.6 One is to drink these in water. But if one is to drink it in maguey wine, it is without liquid rubber, without chili. Or one is to drink [an infusion of] *tlapalezquauitl wood. Or one is to go on drinking the ezpatli7 [medicine].
